My mom has been busy meeting with city and state leaders throughout Utah this summer working on awareness for No Texting. She met with the Attorney General, Sean Reyes and talked about what it would take to make Utah a hands free state. We feel that a hands free law is the next necessary step in protecting innocent victims from distracted drivers. Cell phones in cars are dangerous. Period. We have also met with city councils to promote the No Texting Signs. We are hoping to get these placed all throughout the state, starting in schools and city & government lots. Several of the high schools in the area have No Texting Banners hanging in the school gyms and out in the football fields to serve as a reminder that 9 people die each day from a distracted driving accident. One of those was our dad, our husband, our son and our friend. Hopefully we can lower that number through awareness, education and enforcement.

Woman pleads not guilty in possible texting, driving death
Our family is saddened by Carlas choice to plead Not Guilty. We will all wait for another month for a possible trial date to be scheduled or to see if Carla decides to enter a plea deal. We all know that this accident was just that. An Accident. I'm sure this woman did not intend to kill my dad or cause extreme injury to my mom but she did make a lot of mistakes that day and she DID ultimately cause the death of my dad by being distracted. She also chose to be uninsured, which left our family with the financial responsibility to cover all of the medical bills. We hope she will take responsibility for her actions and hopefully someday be able to say "I'm Sorry." She needs our prayers just as much or more than our family does.

New Distracted Driving Bill Passed!!
Last week a new bill was passed that would make any dialing or touching your phones screen illegal while driving. You can still talk on your phone and use speaker, siri or any other hands free apps to make a phone call, it is just illegal to look down and type on your phone now. This will help law enforcement officers be able to enforce the already existing texting law. We hope this will help people to see how dangerous and distracting looking down to type on your phone is! HUGE thanks to Senator Urquhart and Rep Don Ipson for their work presenting and passing this bill! And to our city attorney Shawn Guzman. It has been a year in the making and we are so relieved to see it come to pass!

Red Thumb Reminder Fundraiser!!
Red Thumb Reminder's Steve Babcock is brilliant.. he is starting a red nail revolution!! This is his idea:
Anyone can do this. All you need is a thumb, some nail polish and the desire to be safer behind the wheel. I decided to paint my thumbnail red so every time I picked up my phone from behind the wheel, all I would see was a big red thumb reminding me to put the phone away. As silly as it sounds, it totally worked. And now my hope is that it'll work for everyone else. One red thumbnail at a time.
Jamberry Nails has started a fundraiser and will donate 25% of all sales from their red lacquer nail polish to our Stop the Texts, Stop the Wrecks Campaign!! Go buy some red polish and help make the roads safer for all of us!
