IHC Trauma Video of Dave and Leslee's Accident

Dixie Regional Medical Center is trying to raise funds to upgrade their trauma unit at the hospital so people in serious trauma won't have to be lifeflighted to other hospitals and hopefully save lives.  For the past month, they've been filming this video of my parent's accident to show at the Jubilee of Trees. It gives a pretty detailed and graphic account of the morning of March 4th, 2013.

We decided (I decided:)) the day before the St. George Marathon, that it would be a good idea to go run it for my dad. It was, after all, his very favorite race and he NEVER missed it. It turned out to be our favorite race EVER!! So worth it. Dave was with us that morning, no doubt. Love you dad!!

RED ROCK RELAY for DAVE

Tomorrow, twelve family members, friends and neighbors of Dave Henson will run the Red Rock Relay in his honor. Team DAVESTRONG. We will run to raise awareness of the dangers of Distracted Driving. The Relay will start in Brian Head and end in Zions. We are excited to be able to do this for Dave. Running was a love he shared with all of us and now it has become a way for us to start to heal and feel close to him. PLEASE continue to be smart while you drive. Park your phones. Put them away. Don't text and drive! Dixie Drive No Texting Sign

This Thursday, July 25th at 3:00, St George City will install it's first "No Texting" sign in honor of my dad, Dave Henson. The sign will be installed on Dixie Drive, just south of the bridge where he was killed by a texting driver. The Mayor, City Attorney, Police Chief, Council, City Manager as well as other City Employees will be there to support this cause. We would love to have your support! Please come and show your commitment to not text and drive. We will have bumper stickers, shirts, bracelets and all sorts of gear. :) Lunch will be served afterwards at the Downtown Pizza Factory at 4:00. Hope to see you all there!!

APRIL is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

We are looking for volunteers to head up the Don't Drive Distracted campaign in all the local schools for the month of April. We need people to distribute flyers to kids & parents as well as help get petitions signed to get legislation for tougher cell phone laws and ultimately to make Utah a hands free state. Volunteers are also needed to help get businesses support by placing "Park Your Phone Before You Drive" signs in parking lots and posters in those businesses.  Contact us if you would like to help! getoffyourphone@live.com

Call or Email your LOCAL Representative

So we met last night with our State Representative Chris Stewart. He advised us to each contact our local representative that would be able to help us more on a state level. Below is a link with a list of representatives in each area of the state. PLEASE PLEASE send an email or a letter or even call your rep and ask what we can do to get a bill going to make Utah a hands free state along with the 11 other states that are already hands free.  We know with enough support, we can make this happen!!!

We are trying to raise money to go towards Distracted Driving Awareness!! All money raised will go towards billboards, education in high schools, signs, posters, flyers, bumper stickers, ads, etc. The t-shirts are a $15 donation. You are welcome to donate as much or as little as you can!! Just click on the paypal link in the right column of this blog and enter your donation amount. Our Story

On March 4th, 2013, my parents, Dave & Leslee Henson went on a morning walk on Dixie Drive in St George, UT and were hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk. The driver at fault was texting and speeding. My dad saved my mom's life by taking the full impact and shielding her from the car. My mom survived with a broken neck, broken back, separated shoulder and several other injuries including over 5000 stitches and staples in and on her head. She is a miracle and we are so blessed that she survived the accident. We know she is meant to be here on earth. We hope that together we can save lives by educating teens AND adults on the dangers of distracted driving, most specifically, texting and talking on cell phones while driving.
